How To Exercise Bums, Tums and Flabby Arms!

So you want to burn the body fat and tone your muscle from various parts of the body. In my experience there are 3 key elements to reaching these goals.

  1. Melt the Fat
  2. Resistance is NOT futile
  3. '3D' Nutrition

1. Melt the Fat

To melt or burn off body fat you must increase your heart rate. The best way to do this is to embark on an activity that gets the heart beating faster and at make you at least slightly out of breath. "On average a 30 minute brisk walk will burn off up to 250 calories!"

Examples of good cardio exercises are:

  • Brisk Walking
  • Jogging
  • Rowing
  • Cycling
  • Playing with the kids in the garden!

2. Resistance is NOT futile!

'Resistance training' is the term used to describe a way of effectively working your muscles using gym equipment such as weights, household items such as water bottles, tin cans or even your own body weight. Whenever I introduce a female client to resistance training the majority picture themselves as getting big bulky muscles. This is not the case at all, what you will get from resistance training is:

  • Muscle which is stronger and toned but not bulky
  • An increase is bone mass which will help reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later life
  • As your muscle gets leaner your overall metabolic rate will increase which results in more calories being burned off even when you’re resting!

3. 3D Nutrition

Repeat this 10 times: "Don't Do Diets!"

Diets are short term fixes that are non sustainable! How many times have you tried the latest fad diet and often found a quick few pounds will come off but when your old eating habits return you may eventually find yourself back to your original weight?

Isn't it better to have a more sensible, balanced approach to your food and drink intake which allows you that treat you desire? So no more yo-yo diets for your body to cope with!

Tip: a great way to burn off some extra calories....rip up your diet books!!
